Plant & Labour Hire

Plant and labour hire shouldn’t feel like a last-minute fix. It should give you professionals who understand how a job actually runs on site, from the first cut through to clean up and reinstatement.

At McGrath Contracts, our labour hire services are built around real work in the field. Our crews are used to civil, utilities and infrastructure jobs, so they come in ready to get started.

You’re not just bringing in extra labour. You’re bringing in operators and support crews who know how to work safely, keep things moving and avoid common delays. This includes support across excavation projects where excavator hire in Sydney is commonly used, giving you a practical alternative backed by experienced crews.

Access the right equipment for the job

Having the right equipment on site makes everything easier. It helps avoid delays, keeps work organised and makes it easier for crews to stay productive throughout the job.

Here’s what we offer to support your site:

Dry vacuum trucks

Dry vacuum excavation gives you more control compared to traditional digging methods.

Instead of using buckets or mechanical force, material is removed through controlled suction. This lowers the risk of damaging underground services like electrical, gas or water lines as well as other sensitive areas.

It also changes how the job is set up. Work that would normally require multiple machines and crew can often be handled by a single dry vac unit with an operator, reducing site congestion and improving safety.

Because no water is used, the material stays dry and can often be reused on site as backfill. This cuts down on transport, reduces emissions and helps keep work moving.

Dry vac units remain limited across New South Wales. As excavation contractors in Sydney operating three of the five units currently available in the state, we hope to bring this method to a wider range of projects, drawing on its established use in the UK where it is widely adopted for safer, more controlled excavation.

Wet vacuum trucks

Wet vacuum excavation is still a practical option depending on the job.

We use pressurised water to loosen soil and debris, which is then removed using a high-powered vacuum system. It’s particularly effective in compacted ground or where material needs to be carefully broken apart before extraction.

By controlling and containing slurry during the process, wet vacuum excavation supports cleaner, safer work on sensitive sites where precision is important.

Our fleet includes high-capacity wet vacuum trucks ranging from 8,000 to 10,000 litres. Each project is handled by experienced crews who manage everything from cutting and locating through to reinstatement, helping reduce the need for multiple contractors and keeping operations efficient.

Hook trucks and tippers

Our hook trucks and tippers support day-to-day site work, including material transport, loading and removal.

Our fleet provides flexibility across different stages of the job, helping move materials where they need to go and keeping other parts of the site running without interruption.

Crews ready for specialised work

Our labour hire services include crews who are trained for specific types of excavation and utility work.

This includes:

  • Potholing and service locating crews

  • Remediation and backfilling teams

  • Ausgrid trained crews

  • Ticketed labour available across all services

Support from start to finish

Projects tend to slow down when too many contractors are involved. Each stage depends on the next, and delays can build quickly.

McGrath Contracts can support the full process with one team. From road cutting and jackhammering through to locating, excavation and reinstatement, everything can be handled together.

This makes it easier to manage the job and helps reduce downtime between stages.

 Meeting safety and compliance requirements

Safety and compliance are part of every job, not something added at the end.

Our crews are trained to meet current industry requirements, including work aligned with Sydney Water expectations and Ausgrid standards.

With ongoing training and clear site processes, work is carried out with a strong focus on safety from start to finish.
